COLLEGE OF
HEALTH AND HUMAN
SERVICES

The mission of the College of Health and Human Services is to provide a high
quality education and well-prepared graduates who demonstrate proficiency,
critical thought, leadership ability, creativity, and commitment in current and
future professional practice. Located in the Capital Region, the College
prepares students for roles in society as productive citizens, fully committed
to enriching the lives of others, promoting mutual respect for diverse
populations, and lifelong learning.
To fulfill its mission, the College of Health and Human Services has
established the following goals:
- To promote the University's Mission "to preserve, communicate and develop
knowledge and cultivate wisdom."
- To encourage and support research and scholarship.
- To promote interdisciplinary collaboration and cooperation.
- To influence social and health care policies.
- To promote and support academic and community leadership.
- To encourage free thinkers engaged in creative problem solving.
- To expose students to theoretical knowledge and laboratory, clinical and/or
field experiences and community services.
The curricula offered by the seven academic units of the College consist of
three building blocks: a classroom component that presents the theoretical basis
for the discipline; a laboratory component that develops specific skills in the
discipline; and a field component that allows students to apply classroom and
laboratory knowledge to real-life situations. Appropriate educational technology
is used to enhance the teaching-learning experience, and students have an
opportunity to develop proficiency with computers and software applications used
in their disciplines.
The strength of the College's faculty derives from their collective
experience as teachers and practitioners in their fields. In addition to serving
as educators and professional role-models for students, the faculty are involved
in a variety of activities which demonstrate their commitment to scholarship,
creativity, and community involvement.
In summary, the College of Health and Human Services is a thriving, dynamic
component of California State University, Sacramento. It takes pride in the
accomplishments of its students, alumni, faculty, and staff, and welcomes the
opportunity to be involved in the surrounding community.
